BCOP-TV Test Credits…

Just in time for February Sweeps, we have revamped our full closing credits, normally 40 pages of our full and mostly part time staff. This is a test, we may tweak this when we feel it’s needed. The music is the Morning Theme of Propulsion V2 from 615 Music. This was KHOU11’s early morning news theme upon the 2011 rebrand and to the Gannett/Tegna takeover in October 2014. It has a very classic 615 sound to it! It matches our branding of bubbling minifigures and hard news (the “Primary Theme” in Propulsion V2)

VLOG: How to protect Outdoor Lego from UV damage as long as possible

LEGAL NOTE: It is not Anticipated or Expected that the lego company endorses this video; and is for adult users only. Like any plastics, Lego is not invincible from UV damage for being outdoors. On sunny days, you can see the age, on cloudy days they look more traditional.

In 2001 I visited Legoland California, and in 2019 I went there for the first time in 18 years. The Outdoor Miniland USA got baked in the sun and had received sun damage. Legoland Florida has only been opened for over a decade and there would be high suspicion that UV or heat damage could apply to Miniland objects. Legoland New York had opened in the midst of the pandemic in the Hudson Valley of NY, and it would be interesting to see how that Miniland fares overtime if the Legoland park managers had put trees and plants to protect bricks from extreme weather in the Northeast. This is the only way to protect your investment.

FBF: Lighting Grid, BRCK-TV Miniland (2011)

No pun intended for “Flashback” but this was of my first studio projects in minifig scale. It’s a variant of various special bricks and hinge pieces using crossed 1x plates. These things can be hard to build.

The BRCK-TV digs in Metro Miniland was the first station in the Minifig world to be in full 720p HD (later to be at 1080p), tapeless and mostly an IP based operation. It was modeled of KYW’s digs, when they relocated in 2007. the BRCK-TV studio was located in the Manchester Borough of Miniland and coincidentally if it was located in the real world, next to my least favorite Manchester, NH station.

BRCK-TV’s owner changed the following year and by early 2013, became a KCAL/KCBS setup, where BSBS-TV, Miniland’s Channel 2 would move in.

The Best Production of 2021 – Thanksgiving in The Spirit of Copenhagen (BCOP-TV)

Can we submit Thanksgiving in The Spirit of Copenhagen for the Miniland Regional Emmys?

For many years, I had this thing where as far back as a six year old where I was known for “arranging [my] toys in a particular order” and the inference is that the toys wouldn’t move. But what if it’s all you and you’re the only one that wants to move all your stuffed animals? (inside autistic joke here)

Anyways I had produced 2 attempts in 2015 and 2017 but it wasn’t until 2021, I finally got it. The video is a bit rough (due to deadlines, the media in my Avid editing system was getting overwhelmed) and I was working many hours on the week of Thanksgiving to get it out. I was also up till 2:00 am Thanksgiving morning to master it to share. Some packages didn’t roll and Santa was M.I.A. Resulting in our enterprise reporter and traffic reporter (who was grounded due to the clouds) to adlib and stretch throughout the event. Some commercials didn’t air and PSAs didn’t roll.

Ironically given the quirks and miscues editing it, this actually looked like a live event production. Clearly my most favorite work of art, simulating live shots in post. While the minifigs can blame the OverDrive install to not work, it was the nicest thing I had ever did in a long time.

I finally got my childhood dream to come true, to actually do some own parade and actually shoot and edit and make this my best thing I have done on my Avid editing system to date.

FYI the run time is 50 minutes if you even have the time to watch it. 🙂

(Former) Lego ENG Helicopters

Taken in 2014 or 2015, I built two different newsgathering helicopters for the Miniland TV market. The one that’s in the background is Chopper 2 HD for the SBS O&O in Miniland. The copter itself is based off Lego kit 6553 (Crisis News Crew Outback theme, released in 1997.) I had this kit for many years. Like many of the kits I had built, I destroyed and built my own. In fact to be honest, this set was one of the better realistic news copters Lego had ever made. It’s based off the Bell 206 helicopter; of which is one of two major modern helicopters American stations use. I actually want to rebuild it again (as well as the tiny SNG van that was included)

To make a gyroscopic camera for your minifigure newsgathering crew, it only requires a few pieces you may have laying around

About half of the pieces are related to 6553, especially on the belly area.

In the foreground, is SkyFox, to the Fox-O&O like station. It was all black.

Both helicopters crashed. And minifigures died.  In 2017, BSBS-TV lost Chopper 2 and two of their crew, a pilot and a young videographer to manipulate the gyroscopic camera. They crashed near Elizabeth, a city just northwest of the city. Poor weather was the blame according to the Minifig Transport Safety Board; copters are not supposed to fly. The footage of the Chopper 2 crash came from SkyFox. The following year, in mid 2018, SkyFox crashed and killed a minifigure; Chopper 2 didn’t return to the air till the end of 2018 with a similar Bell 206 copter..
